I run a nail salon and have my own brand. I started developing psoriasis at 17 years old. When it started, it was the size of a 20-cent coin on my leg. When I went to see the doctor, he didn’t really explain what the patch on my leg was except that it was called psoriasis. He just told me to apply some steroid cream to it. He was quite casual about it, so I didn’t worry about it too much, thinking it was just a temporary condition.
It wasn’t until a few years later that the patch grew and started to appear on my elbow. I kept seeing different doctors, but none of them could prescribe a treatment or medication that worked. When I was 22, I went to London with my family and saw a doctor. He put me on a different medication, which I had to stop because I was constantly vomiting. At that time, my psoriasis covered 90% of my body. I then went to another dermatologist who prescribed me a treatment twice a month that only worked for a while.
It was in 2019 when I developed psoriatic arthritis. I was experiencing pain in my ankle and initially thought that I had sprained it. But then I started developing the same type of pain in my hands and other joint areas. When I walked, I felt like I was falling, and I found it hard to drive because my legs would really hurt. I then went to see a dermatologist and was diagnosed with psoriasis arthritis. My nails also became brittle and started developing tiny dots on them, which was also diagnosed as nail psoriasis. The dermatologist then prescribed treatment that finally worked. My condition is now more manageable after getting treatment.
Today, I am in a better place physically, mentally, and emotionally. When I look back to where I was when I was in pain, I realised that I have come so far. It was not an easy road, and it took a lot of pain and suffering to get the right treatment, but I am proud that I went through it. I am thankful that I am still standing today, much happier and healthier than I have been in a long time.
